Chisinau, Moldova: Chisinau Central Synagogue aka by its Yiddish name Gleizer Shil / Shul or in Romanian as Geamgiilor sinagoga - designed by architect T. Ghinger, located on Chabad Lubavitch Street - Chabad, also known as Lubavitch, Habad and Chabad-Lubavitch (Hebrew: חב"ד לובביץ'; Yiddish: חב״ד ליובוויטש), is an Orthodox Jewish Hasidic dynasty. Chisinau was once considered as a core of the Bessarabian Jews. In 1903, the first Jewish pogrom took place in Chisinau, a second occurred in 1905. In spite of this in Chisinau, by the beginning of the Second World War, had 77 synagogues and prayer houses. In 1964 Soviet authorities closed all synagogues in except this one. The city's largest, the Tirilson synagogue remains in ruins.
