An obsolete and derelict school sits off a main road, its windows and doors now covered with decorative murals to prevent damage and unwanted graffiti, It has been replaced with a modern and shiny structure elsewhere in the town. The old design features of a typical Victorian children's school, including the separate entrances for boys and girls, can be seen in this picture. October 11th, 2022, Kiplin, North Yorkshire, England, UK. The beautiful Jacobean Mansion, Kiplin Hall, that lies near the village of Scorton in North Yorkshire, always puts together a fun forest adventure for children at Halloween. This famous old house was the home of Lord Baltimore of the Calvert family, and the city of Baltimore in the US is named after him. His family also founded the state of Maryland in the US, this named after Charles I wife Henrietta Maria. I took this picture as the Halloween tableaux was being set up. As you can see, it gives a whole new and very humorous meaning to the phrase ‘being mowed down’.

These are interesting places to walk around in with this very eye catching architectural style predominant throughout them and which thankfully hasn't changed much over time. This is one of the typical and strikingly designed bungalow type houses in the area, the norm being to build single storey due to the threat of further earthquakes.
11th September, 2005, Ascension Island, South Atlantic, British Overseas Territory - The Three sisters hill range is a series of volcanic mounds near the village of Two Boats. If you are lucky enough to take the arduous climb to the top of the highest one, you get a fantastic view over this part of the island and (if it's still there) will come across a weathered, simple wooden post box that ships' captains used to use to collect and leave mail. Beware, the climb over the volcanic cinder to the hills' tops is a hard one and will rip into any footwear you have on, so wear something old and disposable.

March 19th, 2022, Haroldswick, Unst, Shetland Islands, UK. The Shetland Islands are particularly beautiful and their culture owes much to a Scandinavian past dating back over a thousand years. The islanders are very proud of their past and local islanders have made a wonderful reproduction of a Viking longship, which lies displayed adjacent the open road, so that tourists can just park up and admire their splendid work. This is the type of vessel that the island's Scandinavian settlers would have arrived in. December 31st 2004, Easter Island, Chile, South America. A line of fifteen ancient carved upright Moai heads, one still with pumice stone head dress on, look out from a stone plinth. Interestingly, these lines of heads tend to look in towards the island's interior, whilst the famous solo heads predominantly look out towards the sea. These large stone heads were made by the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island, during the 'post-classical period of history' (circa AD 200–600 and AD 1200–1500).

August 23rd, St Mary's Graveyard, Bolton on Swale, North Yorkshire, England, UK. Henry Jenkins was a man of simple means, who lived in this beautiful old Yorkshire village and this picture shows a grave monument to him, paid for by the parish. What is remarkable about him, is that he was born in 1501 during the reign of the first Tudor monarch, Henry VII and died 169 years later in 1670, during the reign of the Stuart monarch, Charles II. He was a valuable source of verification for the parish, as he could recall many facts over an extraordinarily long period of time. A plaque within the nearby church tells his story.
