Big Lizzie was originally constructed to transport wool from the station properties adjoining Broken Hill. In November 1977, Big Lizzie arrived in Mildura but was forced to remain on the Victorian side of the Murray River, which was in flood. With a top speed of only 2 miles per hour, and a working speed of even less, Big Lizzie was ideal for pulling out and clearing mallee stumps.
