Lake Matheson is a popular destination for tourists visiting the West Coast of New Zealand. It is well known for its reflections of the surrounding forest and mountains, including New Zealand's tallest mountain Mount Cook.
Mount Tasman (Rarakiroa in Māori) is New Zealand's second highest mountain, rising to a height of 3497 metres. It is located in the Southern Alps of the South Island, four kilometres to the north of its larger neighbour, Aoraki/Mount Cook. Unlike Aoraki/Mount Cook, Mount Tasman sits on the South Island's Main Divide, on the border between Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and Westland National Park. It is the highest point in Westland District.
Lake Matheson is situated on the West Coast of New Zealand and is know for its reflections of Mount Tasman and Mount Cook (New Zealand's hightest mountain) in it's still waters. Native rain forest surrounds the lake and is also reflected in the waters. Early morning mist hangs just above the trees. Lake Matheson is a very poplular location with tourists.
