At 700 years old, these former Acacia trees are not the only remnants left in Deadvlei. As you're coming into Deadvlei, look to the right, there are a number of still green living Acacia trees growing at a lower elevation. In some of them, eagle owls are breeding on a regular basis. Please don't disturb them.

Dune 45 is a star dune in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib in Namibia. The sand dune is 80 m to 170 m high and consists of five million years old sand.
