This vintage engraving depicts the portrait of Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel (1557 - 1595). He wasa an English nobleman and considered a martyr after spending 10 years in the Tower of London and dying of dysentery, primarily for remaining Catholic at a time under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I that it was difficult to do so. Engraved by Henry Thomas Ryall (1811 - 1867) after a painting by Zucchero (1529 - 1566). Published in 1835 in a collection of English portraits, it is now in the public domain.
