The initiator of castles building was King Ludwig II, the king of Bavaria. Castle was dedicated to his good friend and favorite composer - Richard Wagner. Location of the castle was chosen carefully, and it was built on a rugged hill with a beautiful view to Allgau region and Schwangau town with two lakes, Alpsee and Schwansee, close to castle.
