Daily Life at the Fountain of Saint Sophia Square, 1855 The illustration titled "Fountain of Saint Sophia Square" showcases a richly adorned fountain that is likely near the renowned Hagia Sophia basilica in Istanbul. The fountain boasts elaborate architecture with several domes and intricate decorations indicative of the Ottoman style. Surrounding the fountain, daily life bustles with various figures in traditional attire: men standing in conversation, individuals seated in a circle possibly engaged in discussion or sharing a meal, and passersby walking or tending to their activities. The contrast between the majestic architecture and the humble daily activities creates a lively and historical scene. Details such as birds on the ground and flowering trees add to the tranquil and orderly atmosphere of the scene.
