Built on the banks of the Vedavathi River, the Kailasanathar Temple is the oldest structure in the Tamil Nadu city of Kanchipuram in South India. Built by the Pallava King Rajasimha also known as Narasimhavarman II, in the Dravidian style of architecture, it is carved and sculpted mostly out of sandstone. Image shows the Dharmaraja, Bhima, Arjuna and Draupadi Rathas all lined up. Four of the five Pancha Rathas (also known as Pandava Rathas), a monument complex at Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram, on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Dating from the late 7th century, it is attributed to the reigns of King Mahendravarman I and his son Narasimhavarman I (630-680 AD) of the Pallava Kingdom. The structures are without any precedence in Indian temple architecture and are carved out of a single granite rock each. Remarkably well preserved, they withstood the ravages of the Tsunamis of the 13th Century and 2004. They however display the effects of wind and sand erosion of over one thousand three hundred years. Kanchipuram, India - January 29, 2015: A weaver on a hand-loom, weaving the famous, much sought after, Indian Conjeevaram or Kanchipuram silk sari in the town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, South India. Only about about 15 inches can be woven in a whole day; it takes between 15 to 20 days to weave a whole Sari. Each Sari is unique and the design is hardly ever repeated. The gold you see in the Sari is real gold, woven into the sari as gold thread. This is a centuries old craft, that flourishes in this one town in the whole of India. The new Cathedral, located several hundred feet below the surface of the earth, in an old Halite salt mine, has been built about 200 feet below the older one. It was completed in 1995. Lit by LED lights which continuously change colour, the church is a popular tourist and pilgrimage destination. The cross behind the main altar is said to be the largest 'indoor' cross in the world. The mines have been excavated from pre-Colombian times by the Muisca people dating back to the 5th Century BC.

Colombia, Laguna de Guatavita - This is the lake that the colonial Spanish and others tried to drain in search of gold that was said to have been thrown into the lake during various religious ceremonies of the Muisca people. In spite of cutting a wedge into one side of the surrounding mountains, they only managed to lower the level of the lake a little bit. They found a few artifacts on the lake shores. This is the origin of the original legend of El Dorado. The lake continues to be sacred to the Muiscas. The depth of the lake is 125 metres. Photo shows the Bhima, Arjuna, Draupadi and Nakula Sachadeva Rathas. The structures are without any precedence in Indian temple architecture and are completely carved out of a single rock each. Remarkably well preserved for monuments that are over 1300 years old, they withstood the ravages of the Tsunamis of the 13th Century and 2004. They however display the effects of wind and sand erosion. These are not temples as they are unfinished and were never consecrated. They are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site at Mahabalipuram. Kanchipuram, India - January 29, 2015: A couple of women load silk thread into a hand-loom, weaving the famous, much sought after, Indian Conjeevaram or Kanchipuram silk sari in the town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, South India. The 8th century Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram, built in the 8th Century, between 700 and 728 AD, during the rign of the Pallava King Narasimhavarman II. Sculpted cattle in stone decorate the temple on one side. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984, the temple is one of the oldest structural temples in South India.
