Many areas of Chiapas, the southernmost state of Mexico, are under control of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN), a leftist armed militant group that is trying to alleviate the suffering of the people in these poor underdeveloped lands. The group's name comes from Emiliano Zapata, one of the main leader of the Mexican Revolution of 1920-30.
