Description

The saga of emperor Conrad III (1093 - 1152) and the loyal wives of Weinsberg (Germany, Baden-Wuerttemberg). After the surrender of the castle, the emperor allowed safe passage to women and they were allowed to take the most valuable, what they could carry. Then the women chose their spouses, and carried them on their back into the freedom. Woodcut engraving after a painting by Moritz von Schwind (Austrian painter, 1804 - 1871), published in 1881.
