Two boys being made to drink some noxious mixture, to the evident delight of the apothecary (or doctor) and a man with a whip. Perhaps they have played a trick on him, or eaten something they shouldn't! Anyway - it looks like a fine punishment! Illustration from 'Peter Parley's Annual for 1880' published by Ben. George, London. 'Peter Parley' was the pseudonym of Samuel Griswold Goodrich, an American children's author. (Note the reversed letter 'S' in the shop window, which shows that the engraving is made the opposite way round to how it is printed.)
