The bell tower of the parish church of San Vito di Cadore, is currently 39.20 meters high (at the cross) and the base is in dolomite. We know that it had a tormented history, although there are few ancient documents: once it was detached from the nearby Gothic church then rebuilt, around 1760, on a project by the Tolmezzini Schiavi while now it is close to the apse. The works on the church had compromised the functionality of the bell tower and therefore the arrangement was well thought out by contacting various experts and then reaching compromises with Domenico Schiavi for the project and with the marangon Bortolo Del Fabbro for the rise of the bell tower and the roof. Of the ancient church we wanted to keep the fragment of external fresco with the great San Cristoforo to protect the pilgrims and wayfarers who passed in the underlying Strada Regia while the soaring bell tower seems to have traces of an ancient watchtower about 15 meters high. The work ended with the installation of the clock produced by the Lacedelli brothers, the bells of the Tyrolean Johann Grassmayr, the agordino copper globe covered with pure gold and worked in Innsbruck, the cross produced in the Brixlegg foundries.

The Giau Pass, which connects Cortina d'Ampezzo to Selva di Cadore in the province of Belluno, is known as one of the most beautiful passes in the Dolomites. It is made famous not only for having been a stage of the Giro d'Italia, but also because during the year important events such as the Dolomites Marathon are held and for the numerous proposals for excursions both in summer and in winter.
