The marble statue dedicated to Dante Alighieri in front of the Basilica of Santa Croce, in the historic and medieval heart of Florence, in Tuscany, built in 1865 by the sculptor Enrico Pazzi (1818-1899). The 'supreme poet' and philosopher Dante Alighieri, author of the Divine Comedy, is considered the father of the modern Italian language. Built between 1294 and 1385 in neo-Gothic and Renaissance style, Santa Croce is one of the largest and most beautiful Franciscan churches in Italy. Inside it is possible to admire the frescoes by Giotto and the tombs of Michelangelo Buonarroti and the astronomer Galileo Galilei.
