Description
Known by different names, Manala in the upper Rhine Region, Mannele in the Lower Rhine district, and St Nicholas Bread, or sometimes Jean Bonhomme in parts of France, this bread is specifically made by bakers in the Alsace and Moselle Regions of France and Germany for St Nicholas Day on 6th December when it is handed out to children. They are traditionally dipped into hot chocolate before being eaten. Here they are being sold at a bakery on 6th December.
