Description
One of the oldest light stations in Massachusetts, Annisquam Harbor Light Station, was built in 1801 at Wigwam Point. The current brick tower replaced the original wooden one around 1897. The keeper’s house and an oil house are some of the original parts of the light station complex, which was finished by 1814. A wooden walkway connects the 41-foot high, round tower, which stands on a stone base, to the land. A brick passage lets people enter the tower. The lighthouse warns mariners of the dangers of the Annisquam River, such as long sandbars and a rocky coast.
