Description
The Ariake Sea is the largest sea in Kyushu with an area of approximately 1,700 km² and an average depth of 20 m, surrounded by four prefectures: Saga, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto. It is characterized by the size of tides, the number of inflowing rivers, changes in salinity, muddy sea areas, the largest tidal flats in Japan, and unique biota in the Japanese sea.
