Description
The word chiaroscuro is Italian for light and shadow. Chiaroscuro, in art and photography, is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually to bring out a three dimensional effect in a two dimensional work of art. In this photograph chiaroscuro is achieved from the way that the fog makes the near objects darker and clearer than the far objects in the picture. This photograph was taken on a hazy day from Upper Spectacle Lake in Bowron Lakes Provincial Park near Barkerville, British Columbia, Canada.
