Nova Scotia is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is one of the three Maritime provinces and one of the four Atlantic provinces. Nova Scotia is Latin for "New Scotland". Most of the population are native English-speakers. The province's population reached 1 million in December 2021. Usually it snows from late November to early April. In winter, snow storms can occur, called "nor'easters" because they are brought by strong winds from the north-east. In winter, on colder days, the temperature drops to -15 °C (5 °F) even on the coasts, and in colder winters, it can reach lower values.
