Description
Göttweig Abbey (Stift Göttweig) is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1083 and perched on top of a hill not far from Krems, in Lower Austria. After a devastating fire, it was largely rebuilt in the Baroque style in the eighteenth century. You can admire beautiful frescoes inside the complex and a superb view from the terrace. In 2000, it was inscribed in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites as part of the Wachau Cultural Landscape.
