Description
Alborz (Elburz) range is situated between the dry and barren plain of Qazvin in the south and Caspian Sea in the north. Alamut Valley, with its range of hills, curvatures, forms, scars, wrinkles are significant themes in nature's composition of this area. Two big citadels of Ismailis are in this area. One of it is Alamut Castle or Castle of Assassins (or Gazor Khan Castle, after the name of a village, below), where Hassan-i Sabbah and his "Hashshashin" (Assassins) controlled the area for many years, in 11th and 12th century.
