Description
Mastic trees are standing with lush foliage in a field of fresh green grass and leaves and yellow spring flowers on the Greek Island of Chios, Greece in the Aegean Sea in Spring. The flowers are white mustard or Sinapis alba plants. The resin of the mastic trees is collected by bleeding the trees from small cuts made in the bark of the main branches, and allowing the sap to drip onto the. After collection and washing of the mastic, it is used as a flavouring (spice) or for its gum properties, as in mastic chewing gum. Mastic is an important agriculture product of Chios.
