Description
Native to South Africa, Ochna serrulata is also called Mickey Mouse plant, because its bright-red sepals resemble the face of Mickey Mouse. Ochna serrulata is a small shrub. Its fragrant yellow blossoms appear in spring and, though the petals tend to drop soon afterward, four to six fruits grow, attached to the sepals. While the fruits of pale green color at first develop, the sepals enlarge and turn bright red by July.
