Description
Popham Beach, near Phippsburg, Maine, starts at Fort Popham at the mouth of the Kennebec River, the site of the short-lived Popham Colony, founded in 1607 and abandoned the following year. Fort Popham has been the site of coastal fortifications since the American Revolutionary War. The current fort was built during the Civil War.
