Description
Translucent, red and black, unter water by night, that means: invisible! Ruby Cardinalfish Apogon coccineus, a nocturnal species, occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Marquesan and Easter islands, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island in sheltered reef flats, lagoons, and seaward reefs in a depth range from 8-35m or more, max. size 6cm. The species feeds on small benthic crustaceans at night, is cryptic by day under rocks or deep holes.
