San Miguel de Allende, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2008, is one of the most visited and loved cities in Mexico, visited every year by thousands of tourists and visitors. The city is located in the center of northern Mexico, in the state of Guanajuato, 270 kilometers from the capital. The city owes its name to San Miguel and to General Ignacio Allende, hero of the War of Independence of 1810 against Spanish rule.
