Today the beguinage is inhabited by nuns of the Order of St. Benedict and several Bruges women who have decided to remain unmarried.

The Béguinage of Bruges is the only preserved in Belgium, dating back to XIII century. The complex was built to give home to pious women widowed or never married, called the Beguines.
