02 june 2023, Haute Yutz, Yutz, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand est, France. It's spring. In the forest, by the side of the road, among many flowering species, a Hedge woundwort raises its stem. With its green stem and leaves, the flower blends into its surroundings. Only its very small purple flowers make it stand out. This plant looks a lot like a nettle.

Hedge woundwort (Stachys sylvatica) is a purple-flowering labiate plant of European woodlands and waste ground. Its name is derived from a herbal use – the plant has traditionally been applied externally to wounds. It is also the source for the name of General Woundwort, brutal Chief Rabbit of Efrafa, from Richard Adams' novel (Watership Down). This particular photograph is taken alongside the Wilts and Berks canal near Swindon. The out-of-focus water gives space for text.
