Bombyx mori, the domestic silk moth, is an insect from the moth family Bombycidae. It is the closest relative of Bombyx mandarina, the wild silk moth. The silkworm is the larva or caterpillar of a silk moth. It is an economically important insect, being a primary producer of silk. A silkworm's preferred food are white mulberry leaves, though they may eat other mulberry species and even the osage orange. Original edition from my own archives Source : Brockhaus 1898

"The Osage Orange tree, Maclura Pomifera, is shown here after having dropped a large crop of fruit. The pale fruit balls slightly resemble an orange but are inedible and contain a milky sap. The trees are often grown as hedge rows because of their tangle of branches and strong wood. The wood is a yellow orange color and prized for making tool handles and bows."
