Indian pipes, a wildflower not a mushroom, in the forest in midsummer. With one pendant flower on each stem, this is one of the few plants that lack chlorophyll (which makes plants green). It can live in dark forests because it needs no sunlight for photosynthesis. It survives by parasitizing certain fungi, trees and decomposing plants.
