1338 years ego,After the Assassination of Hz Ali Yazid decided that he would demand Hussain's allegiance, hoping to gain some form of legitimacy for his inherited rule. Hussain refused to obey. His life under threat, Hussain decided to move his familt and 72 people to Mecca. Once they reached Karbala, forces 30000 people of Yazid surrounded their small band and blocked their access to the water and food suppy. The battle took place on 10 Muharrem 61 AH (October 10, 680) in Karbala (present day Iraq) between a small group of supporters and relatives of Muhammed's grandson Hussain ibn Ali, and a larger military detachment from forces of Yazid. Hussain was killed mercilessly on the 10th day called Ashura. His head was cut and put on the point of lance. The horses walked on his body. The woman left behind were sent to Damascus and arrested. Today millions of people pay homage to Hussain for his stand annually mourn the tragic Battle of Karbala in which Hussain, his family and loyal companions were brutally killed one by one.
