A large basalt rock with a carving by the Pueblo Peoples is found at the Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque New Mexico, This 17 Mile National Park is located within the West Mesa and has several miles of trails for visitors to walk along and enjoy this historical geological site with dormant fissure volcanoes.

We walked along the cliff face on the 1/4 mile Petroglyph Trail, between Pueblo Bonito and Chetro Ketl sites, in the golden hour. The Chaco Canyon Petroglyphs are a series of symbols carved into the stone walls of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, New Mexico. The petroglyphs are depictions of different symbolic items including animals, celestial markers, and humanoid figures, as well as more abstract imagery such as swirls and lines. These works were created by the Ancestral Puebloan people circa 850 - 1250 AD. Archaeologists believe many of the symbols were used to keep track of the seasons and celestial events. Bring binoculars to get a better view of the petroglyphs high on the cliff face.

The Rock Carvings in Tanum ( Swedish: Hällristningsområdet i Tanum) are a collection of petroglyphs near Tanumshede, Bohuslän, Sweden, which were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. They date from the Bronze and Iron Ages and were carved into the rock by the people of that time. ( Dates for ages vary with the region; in Scandinavia, the Bronze Age is roughly 1800 to 500 BCE )
