Description
A Northern Giant Petrel (Macronectes halli), a large and predatory petrel species, patrols the waters near Elephant Island, Antarctica. Breeding is restricted to sub-Antarctic islands, mainly the South Georgia, Chatham, Kerguelen, and Crozet Island archipelagos. The Northern Giant Petrel, while very similar to the Southern Giant Petrel, is far less common, with a world population only about a quarter of its Southern relative.
