Description
Bubble coral (Plerogyra sinuosa) is a soft coral that is found in the tropical Indo-Pacific region. It is a branching coral that can grow up to 1 meter in height. The polyps of bubble coral are small and round, and they are arranged in clusters. The coral gets its name from the bubbles that form on the surface of the polyps. These bubbles are actually mucus sacs that are used to trap food. Bubble coral can be susceptible to a number of parasites, including the acoel flatworm (Convoluta convoluta). Acoel flatworms are small, transparent worms that live on the surface of the coral. They can cause the coral to become pale and sickly.
