Description
Oirase River and Gorge is a picturesque mountain stream in Aomori Prefecture, which is one of the most famous and popular destinations during the seasons of autumn colors and fresh greenery. Oirase Stream is the only river draining Lake Towada, a large caldera lake. About nine kilometer upper reaches of the stream forms a beautiful gorge with numerous rapids and waterfalls, constituting a part of Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It runs through a virgin forest rich in variety, including white cedar, Japanese beech, horse chestnut, Japanese oak and maple trees. There is nature trail along the stream, from which you can observe the beauty of nature, such as green vegetation, ripples of the river, rocks covered with plants and moss poking above the rapids.
