The name Ars appeared early 969, and since mid 19th century this name is associated with its canonized parish-priest, Saint Jean-Marie Vianney (also known as curé d'Ars). Before his 1925 canonisation by Pope Pius XI there were many pilgrimages to this small city. Chapel built in 1930 dedicated to the Saint Curé of Ars, patron of all the priests of the universe and sheltering the heart of the saint.
