The National Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II or (mole del) Vittoriano, synecdochely called Altare della Patria, is an Italian national monument located in Rome, in Piazza Venezia, on the northern slope of the Capitoline Hill; it is the work of the architect Giuseppe Sacconi. It is located in the center of ancient Rome and connected to modern Rome thanks to streets that radiate out from Piazza Venezia
