Description
Winged euonymus berries (Euonymus alatus var. apterus). This variety lacks the corky winged branches typical of the species. Native to eastern and northern Asia. Introduced to North America, where in the Northeast and Midwest it has become naturalized and invasive. Its importation is banned in Massachusetts. Still, some people like its pink to crimson fall colors, which have earned it the nickname, "burning bush."
