According to researchers, bobbin lace originated around the 15th century, in countries such as Italy, England, Spain and Belgium. There is no concrete data that proves the location of the first production. The tradition in Brazil emerged from the 17th century through the Portuguese. In Slovenia, this job is one of the most used and common for the population. Handicrafts are present in clothing, accessories, housewares, among others. Currently in the country, there are about 120 societies that practice bobbin lace. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) made Slovenian bobbin lace an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018.
