Epidural techniques frequently involve injection of drugs through a catheter placed into the epidural space. The injection can result in a loss of sensation—including the sensation of pain—by blocking the transmission of signals through nerve fibers in or near the spinal cord

Combined spinal and epidural anaesthesia (CSE) is a regional anaesthetic technique, which combines the benefits of both spinal anaesthesia and epidural anaesthesia and analgesia. The spinal component gives a rapid onset of a predictable block. The indwelling epidural catheter gives the ability to provide long lasting analgesia and to titrate the dose given to the desired effect.

The green button is designed to increase the anesthesia provided to the patient thereby decreasing the pain during child birth. An epidural allow the patient to remain awake. In addition to the anesthesia being provided, patients may push the button every 10 minutes to increase the numbing medicine into the space around the spinal nerves in the lower back. It numbs the area below the point of injection and allows you to remain awake during the delivery.

Seven diverse patients, doctors, and healthcare professionals gather to illustrate the medical field of anesthesiology. Details including face mask, medications, and surgery and diagnostic procedures, emphasize the main idea. Conceptual vector illustration presented in isometric view over a blue background on a 16x9 artboard. Colors include warm off-white, gray, turquoise/teal, and magenta
