This mountain range is 242 miles in length and contains several peaks which are over 12,000 feet above sea level in New Mexico and over 14,000 feet in Colorado.  The highest peak is Blanca Peak in Colorado at 14,351 feet above sea level.  The name of the mountains, which means “Blood of Christ” in Spanish, refers to the reddish color observed during sunrise and sunset.
