A late Victorian woman sitting on a bamboo chair at a bamboo table, the tip of her quill pen touching her lips, as she attempts to answer a letter satisfactorily. She holds in her hand the letter she has received and which is giving her so much cause for thought. An engraving from “The Girls’ Own Paper”, a bound collection of monthly magazines for 1896-97 with work by various artists. The magazine was edited by Charles Peters and published by the Religious Tract Society, London.
