It was formed in 1788 by the union of the 1st Troop of Horse Guards and 1st Troop of Horse Grenadier Guards. One of his guards, possibly the island’s Governor, Sir Hudson Lowe, is looking on, with Longwood House - Bonaparte’s home on the island - in the background.
