"This vintage engraving depicts the portrait of John Paul Jones (1747 - 1792), American naval fighter during the American Revolution who uttered the phrase ""I have not yet begun to fight!"" Above the portrait a young Neptune holds a trident with the ""Don't Tread on Me"" flag attached. Engraved by John Chester Buttre (1821 - 1893) after the painting by Charles Willson Peale (1741 - 1827). It was published in an 1877 collection of American portraits and is now in the public domain.
