New Amsterdam (Dutch: Nieuw-Amsterdam), was from 1624 to 1664 the administrative center of the Dutch colony of Nieuw Nederland (New Holland) on the spacious area around today's Manhattan and was renamed after the conquest by the British in New York. Wood engraving after an old dutch original, published in 1884.
