This photo was taken in the Southern Indian State of Telangana in Hyderabad City during the annual Bonalu festival celebrated by the locals worshipping Goddess Kali. During this festival, devotees dress up in colorful and traditional attire and jewelry. Some men (pictured in the photo) dress up as Pothuraju, who is supposed to be the brother of Goddess Kali, wearing a small tightly draped red dhoti and bells on his ankles, and anointed with turmeric on his body and vermilion on his forehead and face painted. He dances to resounding drums, carries a whip and whips himself and goes into a trance sometimes. Shot on 24th July 2016 in Hyderabad City, Telangana State, India.
