"The port and fishing village of Collioure on the Mediterranean coast of Roussillon in the southwest of France, in the Pyrenees Orientales district, and just 7 miles from the Spanish border. The town is famous for being the place in which Derain and Matisse created the Fauvist artistic movement, both of whom lived here for a few years, amongst other artists. The famous tower landmark of Collioure is the clock tower of Notre Dames des Anges church, whose foundations were built in the sea. The belfry was built during the Middle Ages and was used as a warning tower and a lighthouse for the harbour of Collioure. In 1818 the belfry was given its characteristic dome and thus received its final distinctive appearance and itaas use as a lighthouse made redundant. The public beach on the right is St Vincent beach.Being fiercely proud of their Catalan heritage to this day, the town and the palace have been laid siege to, and claimed territorially on many occasions by both the Catalan Spanish and the French. Good copy space."

06/19/2020. Collioure is a town on the Mediterranean coast of southern France. Languedoc-Roussillon, Pyrenees Orientale. This is a popular tourist town in summer. This is a view along the harbour waterfront on a sunny summers day. There are people walking along seafront with coloured boats in the foreground.
Collioure is nicknamed the pearl of the Vermilion Coast, and it must be said that this nickname fits it like a glove. The city is located in a narrow bay, surrounded by mountains, at the bottom of a shallow valley. The vegetation of the valley is made up of numerous pine trees which have been preserved and which are therefore still found between the houses. The heart of the city is very dense, there are few streets and they are narrow, pedestrianized and do not allow the passage of motorized vehicles, which gives a certain charm. The city has been able to encourage residents to enhance their homes, almost all of them are well maintained, with flowers on the balcony and many plants that give a spring feel, even in other seasons.
