There is only one species of chameleons found in the Indian subcontinent, scientifically known as Chamaeleo zeylanicus. The term 'chameleon' is a combination of two Greek words, 'Chamai', meaning 'on the ground/earth' and Leon, meaning 'lion'.
The Oriental garden lizard is known for its ability to change color, especially in males, displaying vibrant hues during the breeding season. These lizards are arboreal, meaning they spend a significant amount of time in trees and shrubs. They are often found basking in the sun on branches or rocks, using their color-changing ability for thermoregulation and communication.
