This very busy, dusty and smelly weekly market congregates Uighur farmers from nearby villages and their sheep, goats, camels, cows, horses and donkeys for sale. Kashgar is an oasis city in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, near the border with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The city has with over 2000 years of rich history consequence of being a strategic trading city on the Silk Road between China, the Middle East and Europe. It is inhabited by several ethnic minorities including the Muslim Uyghurs that often clash and revolt against the central power.
