This area of the upper lake Zurich has been inhabited since the stone age, but it reached more notoriety during the middle ages when it was part of the oriental branch of the Saint James way leading pilgrims from all over Europe to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. It was rebuilt in the 2000's. It crosses the lake across one of its narrowest points connecting the city of Rapperswil with its castle and monastery with a narrow glacial peninsula and the village of Hurden and leading across the mountains to the Einsiedeln Abbey

The Castle Rapperswil is a castle, built in the early 13th century AD by the House of Rapperswil. The Image shows the facade and partially the garden.
